April 2008 - Spring Roundup a Big Success for Children in Need

Seventy-four Ranch

Hundreds of people turned out for a fundraiser for A.C.E.S., the Appalachian Children's Emergency Shelter, being completed on Cares Drive in Pickens county. The Seventy-four Ranch's cowboys roped cattle for their annual spring roundup while A.C.E.S. board members and volunteers collected generous donations from the community on Saturday afternoon at the ranch in Hinton. Doc Stovall and his Tumbleweed Band played everyone's Western favorites as guests sampled beans, cornbread and cobbler from Grumpy's Grub Chuck Wagon, and fabulous appetizers and desserts from restaurants including Ably Asian, the Appalachian Grill, Bub Ba Q, Carriage House, The Last Catch, Main Street Kitchen, Primo Pastries, Pueblo Grill and Cantina, Savor Grill, Sharp Mountain Grill, and the Woodbridge Inn.

All the food was donated, and the entertainers and chuck wagon cooks volunteered their time as well. Guests got to see cowboys rope, meet Larry and Pam Butler's two foals, and Annabelle, their orphan calf. The North Georgia community also came through with donations for the Silent Auction. The A.C.E.S. board would like to specially thank the Booth Museum of Western Art for two beautiful framed prints which generated a lot of interest.  Board president Larry Kent Butler says the event raised close to six thousand dollars.  "On behalf of the board of directors we want to express our gratitude for the generous donations and contributions of food and articles for the Silent Auction," Butler said.  "The fundraiser was a tremendous success. Every cent will go toward furnishing and staffing A.C.E.S."  A.C.E.S. will fill a critical need in Pickens county, sheltering children for 30 to 90 days, while permanent homes are found for them.  "I was so touched by so many people's thoughtfulness and generosity. The people of Pickens county prove they care time and again, and it was delightful seeing so many give so much for the children," Pam Butler said.  Donations are still being accepted.
